Carnegie Middle East Program

WACA Engage America Series

American Policy in the Middle East for a New Administration

About the Program
The pace of change in the challenges to the U.S. in the Middle East has left the American people bewildered about what the U.S. role should be: what should the U.S. do in Syria to prevent the civil war from destabilizing the region further; how can the U.S. best protect Israel’s security; what are U.S. policy options to defeat ISIS; what strategies are best to pursue in Iraq, Iran, Yemen, and Libya; and how should the U.S. promote public diplomacy in the Muslim World. Polls have indicated that Americans have a low appreciation and little understanding of the challenges America faces in the region. The objective of this Engage America Series is to help better inform a broader American public, so that they can make more careful judgments and ask that their representatives do the same on the complexity of the multiple interconnected crises in the Middle East.

By bringing together policymakers and experts from the U.S. in public forums hosted by World Affairs Councils, WACA and other partners in each city will aim to reduce misperceptions and misunderstandings, and provide a broad cross-section of the American public with balanced and high-level analysis that they would not otherwise have access to. We seek to fill this information-access gap in communities and cities across the country, on a foreign policy issue that will continue to have profound implications for the next generation of Americans and future leadership.
