For more than two decades, the World Affairs Councils of America's annual conference has presented top government officials, diplomats, business executives, civic leaders, think tank policy experts and journalists to a national audience. The WACA National Office this month recognizes the Foreign Policy Association for programming excellence - especially its World Leadership Forum - and for ongoing sponsorship of the Great Decisions keynote at the WACA National Conference.
The FPA has held the World Leadership Forum annually for the past 16 years. During this time, the forum has become one of the most prominent platforms for sharing ideas and opinions on global affairs. The list of attendees, participants, and lecturers include distinguished guests from the corporate, political, and social realms.
This year, panel discussion topics ranged from international economic issues and trade, international organizations, the environment, the impending U.S. presidential elections, and more. Secretary-General of the UN, H.E. Ban Ki-moon, delivered a keynote address on the importance of the United Nation's humanitarian, peacekeeping, and environmental missions in the face of a world with decreasingly significant borders. Panelists include: Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former Secretary General of NATO and Prime Minister to Denmark; Joseph Stiglitz, Professor at Colombia University; Lord Mervyn King, Former Governor, Bank of England; and others.
Hot Topics on The Party Conventions & the Presidential Election
The World Affairs Councils of America hosted a Hot Topics conference call with Dan Quayle, Former Vice President of the United States, on Thursday, July 28.
Dan Quayle's political career includes election to Congress in 1976, age 29, where he served two terms; election to the Senate in 1980 and 1986; and Vice President of the United States in 1988, age 41. He served as the 44th Vice President under President George Herbert Walker Bush. Currently, Dan Quayle is the Chairman of Cerberus Global Investments with offices in Asia, Europe as well as New York City. He has been with Cerberus since 1999. The World Affairs Councils of America was privileged and honored to host His Excellency President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine for a major speech at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. Some 450 individuals attended and others watched the livestream on WACA's website; the recorded webcast can be seen here. This special program was followed by a VIP Reception with President Poroshenko and his delegation, along with WACA's 1918 Society members and selected guests of partner organizations.
We are pleased to announce continued collaboration with the Korea Economic Institute of America on the Future of Korea program series. The speaker program focuses on the economic and political situation on the Korean Peninsula as well as U.S.-Korea relations.
The centerpiece of the program is a panel discussion consisting of one representative each from the U.S. Department of State, the Korean Embassy, KEI, or other relevant institutions. The panel participants typically offer a general overview presentation (approximately 45-60 minutes in length), followed by a Q&A period. The speakers address political, security, economic and financial issues pertaining to the Korean Peninsula and U.S.-Korea relations.Details
In partnership with The Iran Project, WACA is pleased to introduceTheIran Nuclear Deal: Prospects for Cooperation, Competition and Confrontation as part of our WACA Engage America Series. The objective of this program is to deepend the understanding of implications of the U.S. policy towards Iran, the nuclear deal, and the Middle East. It is important to stimulate debate and air differences over U.S. dealings with Iran in Councils’ nonpartisan forums. The centerpiece of the program is the panelists’ presentations and audience Q&A.

EU in the U.S. is a program designed to raise awareness, knowledge, and understanding about EU policies, the EU's role as an international actor, and the value of the EU-U.S. relationship. Events will have a wide European scope, with activities highlighting local and regional economic, social, and cultural connections to Europe and the local and regional impacts of those connections.
