For more than two decades, the World Affairs Councils of America's annual conference has presented top government officials, diplomats, business executives, civic leaders, think tank policy experts and journalists to a national audience. Council leaders and members from WACA's 95 affiiliates across the country engage with these speakers and thought leaders over the course of three stimulating days in our nation's capital.

Hot Topics on The Party Conventions & the Presidential Election

The World Affairs Councils of America will host a Hot Topics conference call with Dan Quayle, Former Vice President of the United States, on Thursday, July 28, at 5:00-5:30 PM ET. 

Dan Quayle's political career includes election to Congress in 1976, age 29, where he served two terms; election to the Senate in 1980 and 1986; and Vice President of the United States in 1988, age 41. He served as the 44th Vice President under President George Herbert Walker Bush. Currently, Dan Quayle is the Chairman of Cerberus Global Investments with offices in Asia, Europe as well as New York City. He has been with Cerberus since 1999. Cerberus is a private equity company with more than $30B under management. 
Dan Quayle graduated from DePauw University in 1969 and received his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law Indianapolis in 1974. He lives with his wife Marilyn and they are both involved with several charity activities. They have three grown children Tucker, Ben and Corinne as well as seven grandchildren. (Full Bio.)

'Cover to Cover' Monthly Author Series

August's Cover to Cover willl feature author Talmage Boston on his new book Cross-Examining History: A Lawyer Gets Answers From the Experts About Our Presidents on Tuesday, August 9, at 2:00-2:30 PM ET.

Boston has been a commercial litigator in Dallas, Texas, since 1978 and a shareholder at the Winstead PC law firm since 1997. He’s been recognized in Texas Monthly magazine as a "Texas Super Lawyer" every year since 2003 and named among the "Best Lawyers in America" since 2013. He will discuss his newst book that is coming in Septemeber 2016.

EU in the U.S.

EU in the U.S. is a program designed to raise awareness, knowledge, and understanding about EU policies, the EU's role as an international actor, and the value of the EU-U.S. relationship. Events will have a wide European scope, with activities highlighting local and regional economic, social, and cultural connections to Europe and the local and regional impacts of those connections. More Information

July 28: World Affairs Council of Orange County will host the consul generals of: Romania - Eugen Chivu, Poland - Mariusz Brymora, and Germany - Hans Jörg Neumann, to discuss the current situation in Europe, referring to issues such as Brexit, the refugee crisis, TTIP, and the conflict in Ukraine.

WACA Hosts President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine

The World Affairs Councils of America was privileged and honored to host His Excellency President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine for a major speech at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. Some 450 individuals attended and others watched the livestream on WACA's website; the recorded webcast can be seen here. This special program was followed by a VIP Reception with President Poroshenko and his delegation, along with WACA's 1918 Society members and selected guests of partner organizations.

Peace Day Challenge

International Day of Peace is September 21! The WACA National Office is once again pleased to host a conference call with the United States Institute of Peace to encourage and help Councils raise awareness of Peace Day. Please join this call with Ann-Louise Colgan, Director of the Global Peacebuilding Center at the USIP, and Joyce Davis, President & CEO of the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg, to learn about how you and your Council can get involved in the #PeaceDayChallenge by promoting Peace Day activities in your local communities and schools. The Iran Nuclear Project

In partnership with The Iran Project, WACA is pleased to introduce The Iran Nuclear Deal: Prospects for Cooperation, Competition and Confrontation as part of our WACA Engage America Series. The objective of this program is to deepend the understanding of implications of the U.S. policy towards Iran, the nuclear deal, and the Middle East. It is important to stimulate debate and air differences over U.S. dealings with Iran in Councils’ nonpartisan forums. The centerpiece of the program is the panelists’ presentations and audience Q&A.

Future of Korea 2016

We are pleased to announce continued collaboration with the Korea Economic Institute of America on the Future of Korea program series. The speaker program focuses on the economic and political situation on the Korean Peninsula as well as U.S.-Korea relations.

The centerpiece of the program is a panel discussion consisting of one representative each from the U.S. Department of State, the Korean Embassy, KEI, or other relevant institutions. The panel participants typically offer a general overview presentation (approximately 45-60 minutes in length), followed by a Q&A period. The speakers address political, security, economic and financial issues pertaining to the Korean Peninsula and U.S.-Korea relations. Details
