Upcoming Events

April 3 | The Mexico City Policy and Changes to Title X

About the Event

While many people don’t know it by its official name, the Mexico City policy, often referred to by critics as the global gag rule, is a U.S. government policy that blocks U.S. federal funding for non-governmental organizations that provide abortion counseling or referrals, advocate to decriminalize abortion or expand abortion services. Since 1984, when it was first implemented by the Reagan Administration, the United States Agency for International Development has enforced the policy during all subsequent Republican Administrations and rescinded the policy at the direction of all Democratic Administrations

More recently, on June 1, the Trump administration published a series of proposed changes to the regulations governing the Title X family planning program, which has now come to be known as the “domestic gag rule.”

Join the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia for a discussion with several experts to learn more about these policies and their effects on organizations that provide family planning services and care to women, as well as HIV treatment and care to the public.
